Activating developer mode on Android TV is sometimes necessary to debug an app or to integrate with systems like Home Assistant.

So how to do it? It’s pretty straight forward!

  1. Navigate to settings on your Android TV. On the new “Google TV” Interface – click on your Avatar on the top and then navigate to the settings below. The older interface has a cog icon on the top.
  2. Navigate to Device preferences or system ⇾ About ⇾ Build. Click a few times on Build until you see the notification – “You are now a developer!”
  3. Activate USB debugging – go to Device preferences or system ⇾ Developer options ⇾ USB Debugging and select ON.
